Pune Airport (PNQ), officially known as Pune International Airport, is Maharashtra’s second-busiest aviation hub after Mumbai. Located in Lohegaon, approximately 10 kilometres north-east of Pune’s city centre, the airport operates as a civil enclave within an active Indian Air Force station. That’s right: civilian flights share runways with military aircraft. It’s one of the few airports in India where you’ll spot fighter jets parked alongside commercial airliners.
The airport has undergone a dramatic transformation recently. A brand-new New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) opened in July 2024, nearly doubling the airport’s passenger handling capacity. The older terminal is being renovated and expanded, with its reopening imminent. Together, these two buildings are reshaping how Pune flies.

Pune International Airport doesn’t use the conventional “T1” and “T2” labelling you see at Delhi or Mumbai. Instead, it uses OTP (Old Terminal Building) and NTP (New Terminal Building) on boarding passes. It’s a system introduced to help passengers identify where their flight departs from.
